Tune in every Thursday between 7-9pm UK Time for the presented version of this show. We kick off with a host of reggae stars taking turns over the “Joyride Riddim” , before heading into classic jungle territory with Solution, SVDL and the familiar sounds of Junior Reid. Bambounou and Africa Hitech keep the tempo, with a their own twist on proceedings and set us up for a ‘Back to the Nineties’ set featuring Meat Beat Manifesto, Eptome of Hype, Utu and LFO.
Coldcut continue into hour 2 with hip hop from Eric B & Rakim, KRS 1 and a track off the new Wiley album ‘Evolve or be extinct’. It’s more reggae from Ward 21 and beats n wobbles from An-Ten-nae and PH Fat, before we welcome the guest mix from Slugabed. The Brighton based producer has already had a couple of releases on Ninja Tune, along with a limited White Label ‘Dangerous’ which includes his Busta Rhymes remix featured in his mix. We also get a taste of tracks from his forthcoming album alongside music from Dirg Gerner, DELS, Cameo and Russian synth classic from Zodiac.”

He has been a key figure in the Bristol music scene and has gone on to create his own label Tectonic Records. Although well known for his dubstep, this mix takes us through the house and techno end of the spectrum and although there isn’t a tracklist available, you’ll spot the already classic ‘Music deep inside’ by Zed Bias and Ossie with ‘Tarantula’.
DK continues with the excellent ‘Spaceman Funk’ by Brawther which leads us into part of his ‘space themed’ set created especially for the DJ Food album launch party at the Greenwich Planetarium. A whole galaxy of space related tracks ranging from spaced out disco from Ednah Holt, the cosmic sounds of Mystic Moods, Talkling Heads with ‘Moon Rocks’ and of course, it wouldn’t be complete without Sun Ra and his Intergalactic Cosmo Arkestra.
In hour 2, our very own Strictly Kev from DJ Food is in the spotlight with an interview about his new album ‘The Search Engine’, which is released on the 23rd January. We get an insight into the making of his album, the collaborators involved and the artwork created by Henry Flint and Strictly Kev himself. We also get to hear tracks from the album along with music that has influenced him over the years, with tracks from Adam and the Ants, Kraftwerk, Grace Jones and Boards of Canada.”

The tempo stays high and energy bubbling with big 2011 tracks from Dark Sky, Blawan, Mosca and the excellent Mia Dora remix for Roots Manuva, before ending in more soulful notes from Womack & Womack and HaHaHa & Raksha.
We start with Parker in hour 2 with his ‘Behind the bookcase’ mix. Bristol’s very own beat n’ bass head delivers music from Tipper, SPY and Julio Bashmore, alongside his own remixes of Bjork and Kate Bush. There’s also an exclusive play of Parker’s first single ‘Nowhere to hide’ on his own label Monkey Butler out next month. It’s all cut and fused together with the finesse and quirky soundbites we’ve become accustomed to.
We close the show with Grahmzilla, the Toronto based producer behind various projects including Thunderheist on Big Dada, Bassanovva and Nautiluss on Hemlock Records. Music on offer includes Purity Ring, Zomby, Lunice and Rustie, closing with Araabmusik and Drake.”

Kidkanevil, Ramadanman and Maddslinky remixed Toddla T all feature, alongside a Ninja Trio and a Big Dada double, plus James Blake, Caribou and Bassnectar.
The Hexstatic mix that also appeared in January, was your favourite with the classic Royksopp remix of KOC, leading into the lovely electronica Two Dots by Lusine. SBTRKT’s remix of Modeselektors ‘Art&Cash’ leads perfectly into maierial from Robin Hexstatic’s project, plus music from Magnetic Man, Andreya Triana and Dave Angel.
In hour 2 Coldcut’s mix from July got your vote with a live DJ set from Matt Black at the Energy Union party in Brussels. It starts with classic selections from Kwanzaa Posse, Armando Trovajol, Mr Scruff and a KC Flightt hip house track from ’87. Then it’s the Redshape remix of Martyn’s ‘Seventy Four’ and we keep the pace with DJ Naughty and the epic Seiji mix of ‘Timber’.
DJ Food aka Strictly Kev’s mix from October was a favaourite, celebrating the release of his third EP – ‘Magpies, Maps & Moons’ and he compiled a ‘Magpie Reader’ full of tracks from it, his collaborators and influences. Featuring exclusive unreleased tracks and remixes as well as his trademark spoken word treasures it’s a sonic guide to where his head is at and paves the way for his album in January.”

The votes are in, polling stations closed and for the second year, DJ Irk gets your vote for Mix of the Year. He cropped up a few times in 2011, but it was his mix from March that was the most popular with some bone crunching beats from the likes of Broken Note, Bassnectar and our very own King Cannibal. Then on to some electro-hip hop flavours, showcasing sounds from Dizz1, Cherry Chan and Kiat, plus music from Machinedrum, Bonobo and Modeselektor all mixed to the highest standard. In hour 2 DJ Irk presents his ‘Too much pressure’ mix kicking off in his typical style with a sample heavy spoken word intro and onto some chunky west-coast beats from favourites illGates and Bassnectar, then transition through funk and blues and on to a few rocky beats from Kid Koala and DJ Shadow. Picking up the pace we move on to some funky midtempo sounds, including Dave Nada and Tipper, then finally out to new fLako wonkiness and low-end from Gatekeeper, Joker and Halp.”

The globetrotting DJ kicks off with abstract beats from Outersect, Prefuse 73 and Modeselektor and continues with tracks from Wagon Christ, Fiord and High Tone. It’s more highlights from the last few years with Antipop Consortium, Tipper and Julio Bashmore from 2009. The high tempo continues with the excellent ‘Clap Trap’ from Joe plus more from Tipper and APC to close.
DJ Food steps up in hour 2 with a mix of unreleased music from the ’64 bar challenge’ where the brief was for each track to be 110 beats per minute and last 64 bars. The series was originated on the Ninja Tune forum by Kovas and driven over 6 different challenges with entries from all over the world. Music comes from many unsigned artists, but we also have tracks from Solid Steel resident DJ Moneyshot and previous guests on the show.”

We also here music from Frank Zappa, Buddy Miles and Prince Buster, plus 90′s jungle from Jason Mouse and Invisible Man, as well as tracks from Arcadion himself and his alter ego Hungry Ghost.”

He was also part of a North American Solid Steel tour that year alongside DJ Food, DK and Bonobo. They all regrouped after the tour back at BBC London for a Solid Steel show spinning records bought only on that tour (Those signed up to the mailing list will be getting a download link for that classic show). His mix celebrates the forthcoming release of his Fabric Live CD and we get a taste of some of the tracks included, with music from Michael Redolfi, Crazy Bald Heads and KMA, plus new music from Fourtet himself. DK opens the second hour with Sam Irl remixed by Cid Rim and DELS new single Capsize, remixed by Marla. Then it’s more new music from Scuba, which drifts nicely into the Stepkids and the strange sounds of Dr Philter Banx from 1975, plus another track off the excellent Paul White album.
This is followed by an interview with Big Dada artist DELS. He talks about his creative process in depth including how he hooked up with Kwes, Roots Manuva, Joe Goddard + Micachu to make his acclaimed album “GOB”, going to the early sidewinder raves, as well talking us through some of the tracks that influenced him growing up, such as Aretha Franklin, Wu Tang Clan, Outkast, Wiley + Animal Collective.”
